IBPS Clerk Prelims 2016: Preparation tips for English

The topics from which questions will be asked in this section are:

  • Antonyms

  • Synonyms

  • Reading Comprehension

  • Completion of Sentences

  • Vocabulary

  • Sentence Rearrangement/ Para Jumbles

  • Spotting of errors

  • Gap Fillers/ Cloze Test

  • Grammar Basics

Those topics can be categorized into two groups:

  1. The topics which require good English

  2. The topics which don’t require good English

a.The topics which don’t require good English:

English is such a section to which if you devote an hour daily, it can be a scoring section in the exam. Some of the topics which require good English skills are as follows:

  • Reading Comprehension- For this topic, develop a habit of reading passages and answering questions based on them. In order to score well in ‘Reading Comprehension” passages, practice reading comprehension questions from sample papers and previous year papers.

  • Gap Fillers/ Cloze Test- Try to understand the theme or approach of the sentence and you can easily fill the gaps in the sentences using simple words.

  • Para jumbles- A healthy practice of para jumbles can make you easily solve para jumble questions in the exam. This topic doesn’t necessarily demand good English.

b.The topics which require good English:

There are a few topics which necessarily need good English. Some of the topics that require good English are:

  • Grammar Basics- The grammar topics require good English skills because if you are sound at English only then you will be able to answer grammar questions. The best book for grammar is “Wren and Martin”

  • Vocabulary- There is no way of developing vocabulary without good English. If you are sound in English, you can very well score in vocabulary. Read articles and newspapers to develop your vocabulary. Follow a standard text book like “Objective General English” by R.D. Sharma.

The above will help you mark your strong and weak areas.

IBPS Clerk Prelims 2016: Tips for English

  • Practice arrangement of sentences: Focus on the sentence arrangement parts as it is extremely vital.

  • Brush up your grammar basics: Grammar is the backbone for any language. There would be questions related to active/passive voice, direct and indirect speeches, use of verbs, tense and other questions. Practice well to score well in this section

  • Read and write: Writing and reading habit will make your English even stronger. Take up any topic, start reading about it and write about it. This practice will make you confident enough to attempt questions in the exam.

  • Revise and practice: Solve mock tests and previous year questions. Revise the concepts to remember what you read and practice.

IBPS Clerk 2016 - Top 5 Incredible Time Management tips

“The bad news is time flies, the good news is you are the pilot”

I still remember the days when examinations were “nightmares” for everyone. Examination hall was a battlefield for a student and he/ she used to struggle with his/her concepts and the questions asked. The most difficult part in any examination is “managing time”. The entire three hours passes like a minute and we beg for the last 5 mins to the invigilator to answer the questions which are left. In this case, efficient time management is the only weapon which makes you ace the examination. In this article, we bring you some of the most incredible time management tips for the aspirants of IBPS Clerk 2016.

IBPS Clerk 2016 is one of the prominent examinations in the ‘clerical cadre’. The examination is conducted on an annual basis. Before going to the tips for preparation, let us take a look at the pattern of IBPS Clerk Prelims 2016:

Let us take a look at some of the best time management tips which we would suggest you to cause every second is ‘a rip off’:

  • Try to invest not more than one minute per question. The questions which you find as lengthy try to skip them. They will consume much of your valuable time and you will end up running short of time. You can attempt these questions later when you save some time at the end.

  • Assign time slot for each section and adhere to the allocation. It will help you go through all the sections in a genuine manner and will not let skip any of them. Drop a question if it takes more time than required because that will create a problem for you when you attend other sections.

  • If you are good enough in solving a particular section, allocate a bit more time than to this section as compared to the section in which you are not good. Please do keep in mind that you need to clear the sectional cut- off marks which means that you have to attempt enough questions in all three sections. We suggest you a time allocation agenda which will help you out:

Priority level

Total time to allocate

(approx.)

Number of questions

Number of good attempts

Allocation of time per question (approx.)

1

English (Comprehension and Para Jumbles)

 Par jumble- 4 mins

6

Attempt only when you are done with the easy sections and easy questions are attempted

  • Try to bring intense focus during the 60 minutes of this examination. It is highly important for you to not get distracted as you won’t be able to complete your deadline if you waste time.

  • Be confident about yourself and believe in your capabilities. Nervousness will make your mind blank and you will end up getting confused.

We hope that you will pull your socks up and prepare for the IBPS Clerk Prelims very effectively. Hope to see you at the top with great scores. Stay connected for more updates. All the best!
